Happy New Year from our Policy & Government Relations Committee! We met earlier this week for the first time in 2023, and look forward to continuing our monthly meetings to help shape the Brampton Board of Trade’s policy and advocacy agenda.
Under the leadership of Chair John Cruickshank of triOS College, the Committee tackles a broad agenda that involves looking at policy at all four levels of government. We consider on-going and emerging issues and look at their impact on Brampton businesses, and consider situations where the Board of Trade should take an active advocacy role on specific policy files.
The Committee also regularly invites external guests to speak about their specific areas of expertise. In the recent past, the Greater Toronto Airport Authority updated us on the situation at Pearson Airport and in the first quarter of 2023 we look forward to hosting senior planning staff from the City of Brampton to talk about the implications of Bill 23.
At January’s meeting the Committee discussed:
- Our 2022-2026 Council Guidance Letter
- The upcoming release of our revised Transportation Overview
- Preparatory work for our provincial and federal pre-budget submissions this winter
- The upcoming Ontario Chamber of Commerce policy resolution process
