
The Brampton Board of Trade’s annual State of the City Mayor’s Luncheon took place on February 4, 2025, at the Pearson Convention Centre, drawing nearly 500 attendees from across sectors and industries. Business leaders, city officials, and key stakeholders gathered to discuss Brampton’s economic development, celebrate local achievements, and hear directly from Mayor Patrick Brown about the city’s vision for the future.
Built in Brampton Campaign Takes Center Stage
The event opened with Jaipaul Massey-Singh, CEO of the Brampton Board of Trade, presenting the Built in Brampton campaign, an initiative designed to celebrate and raise awareness of the diverse range of products manufactured in the city. This campaign highlights Brampton’s robust industrial and commercial landscape, reinforcing its position as a key player in Ontario’s economy. The City also unveiled a fantastic video showcasing the great products made in Brampton.

Mayor Patrick Brown’s Vision: Think Big
Mayor Patrick Brown took to the stage to share his 2025 theme: “Think Big.” His address underscored Brampton’s rapid growth and ambitious plans for the coming years, with several major announcements that will shape the city’s future:
- Tunneled LRT Through Downtown – The much-anticipated Light Rail Transit (LRT) project on Main Street has been confirmed to proceed as a tunneled system, ensuring improved connectivity while preserving the charm of downtown Brampton.
- Riverwalk Project & Downtown Redevelopment – Mayor Brown emphasized the significance of the Riverwalk project, which will eventually lead to the lifting of the Special Policy Area (SPA). This development paves the way for major investments and infrastructure improvements in the downtown core.
- Centre for Innovation – A major milestone for Brampton’s educational and technological landscape, the new Centre for Innovation will be home to major tenants Rogers and Toronto Metropolitan University. The project will be developed by AMICO, a key builder driving urban transformation in the city.

Honoring Healthcare and Business Excellence
Mayor Brown also took the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Brampton’s healthcare sector:
- William Osler Health System was recognized as Peel Memorial marked 100 years of service to the community.
- He reaffirmed the city’s commitment to healthcare expansion with the construction of Brampton’s second hospital and the much-needed Cancer Care Centre, ensuring that residents receive world-class medical treatment closer to home.

Inaugural Mayor Patrick Brown’s Recognition of Business Excellence Award
This year’s luncheon introduced a new tradition—The Mayor Patrick Brown’s Recognition of Business Excellence Award. The first recipient of this prestigious honour was Sun Pharma, recognized for its outstanding contributions to Brampton’s economic growth, innovation, and industry leadership. Dr. Andreas Wegner and Dr. Jerzy Zadykowicz proudly accepted the award on behalf of the company.
