Business Issues Are Ballot Issues For Next Municipal Election

The stakes in the October 24th municipal election are high. For Brampton to prosper, it is critical that the council elected to serve from 2022-2026 be strongly aligned with the priorities of Brampton businesses. Over the next ten weeks or so, the Brampton Board of Trade will be sharing information that will help candidates understand the issues of greatest importance to business and give voters the tools they need to cast their ballot in a way that keeps our city moving forward.

There is so much happening in Brampton to be proud of and excited about – plans move along for our Innovation District, significant investments from companies like MDA and Rogers promise to bring much growth to our city including our downtown, and the future Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine will be a catalyst locally and regionally.

In order to fully realize the potential of our city, the next term of council will need to #DoBetter in some important ways. As will be highlighted over the weeks to come, we are calling on candidates to commit to, and the next council to move quickly to enact, the following:

  • Approval of a route for the Main Street LRT Extension
  • A robust budget preparation process that engages stakeholders and inspires public confidence
  • A viable plan to move forward development at Heritage Heights
  • Fully funding and construction of the Centre For Innovation
  • Clearing the backlog in development proposals
  • A realistic and transparent plan for property tax rates
  • Capital and site-specific planning to bring a third hospital closer to reality
  • A Council and senior administration whose conduct inspires civic pride and confidence
