BBOT job fair a success!

As part of its SkillsWithout Borders initiative, The Brampton Board of Trade, with support from The Region of Peel, hosted its 2nd Annual Job Fair for local employers with skills needs.

This was an opportunity for leading employers in Peel to meet with internationally-trained professionals and trades people during the day-long job fair at the Holiday Inn Brampton. More than 400 job seekers met with the almost 40 companies who participated, including Coca Cola, The Region of Peel, Canadian Forces, various Financial Institutions and settlement organizations such as Costi and Acces.

The Brampton Board of Trade hosted the Job Fair to promote and facilitate the hiring of newcomers, as a way of addressing the shortage of skills and labour required by various employers in our community.

The event featured exhibits and staff from 40 leading employers in the region with current or anticipated job openings to fill.

Speakers Bureau supports students

The Youth and Business Committee of The Brampton Board of Trade is planning its10th Annual Youth and Business luncheon scheduled for Oct. 22 at Sheridan College. The luncheon matches students with business professionals to provide realistic insight into those professions.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event, allowing local businesses an opportunity to make a positive contribution to some of the future leaders of the Brampton business community. Excess funds raised are used to establish one or more BBOT student bursaries for graduating high school students furthering their business education at college or university.

As part of this year’s anniversary celebration, the Youth and Business Committee is planning to launch a Speakers Bureau to strengthen the connection between the student population of Brampton and Brampton’s business community. Comprised of BBOT members, representing a wide arrange of professionals, trades and businesses, the BBOT is seeking business leaders willing to share their experiences with students.

Once a roster of speakers is established, contact details will be made available to interested schools and their teachers, making it easier to find a guest speaker who can address the specific interests or concerns of a class.

The objective is to strengthen the connection between the student population of Brampton and Brampton’s business community.

If you are interested in being a part of this Committee, The Speakers Bureau or Sponsorship Opportunities for the Youth and Business Luncheon please contact Brynna Williams at 905-451-1122 ext, 207 for more information.
